Joseph Haydn Symphony No. 9 in C Major, Hob. I:9
Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in d minor, Op. 125

The NMPhil season begins with two Number 9s, by two of the greats – Haydn and Beethoven. Haydn’s festive and energetic Symphony No. 9 in C is a delightful way to start the evening. But Beethoven’s almost 200-year-old Symphony No. 9 in d minor remains an astonishing landmark in the history of music, as perhaps the greatest, best-loved, and most well-known classical work of all time.
