Derek DeVelder is a double bassist with the New Mexico Philharmonic, Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, and Arizona Opera Orchestra. He was a member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra from 1999-2011 and served as double bass faculty for the MasterWorks Performing Arts Festival. Derek’s training includes a Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Post Baccalaureate studies from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria, and a Bachelor of Music degree in music composition from Arizona State University.
He has performed with the Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, Sarasota Music Festival, Brevard Music Festival, Kartause Musik Festival, and was the associate principal bass of the St. Pölten Musikverein in Austria.
