Anna Dmytrenko piano

Prokofiev Scythian Suite
Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
Stravinsky The Rite of Spring

Tonight, we celebrate the dance! The NMPhil opens the concert with the Scythian Suite of Prokofiev, whose music was written and, notably, rejected for a Diaghilev-commissioned ballet. Next up, we welcome back 2016 Olga Kern International Piano Competition second-prize winner Anna Dmytrenko for an exciting performance of Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a work used in many 20th-century ballets. And then, music from the ballet to end all ballets: The Rite of Spring. Music Director Roberto Minczuk conducts.

Popejoy Hall / 203 Cornell Drive, NE / Albuquerque, 87106

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the New Mexico Philharmonic and the Musicians Association for Albuquerque Local 618 have reached a tentative agreement on a final contract renewal. While the final agreement has yet to be ratified by union membership and the philharmonic board of directors, we welcome progress in the negotiations.

This concert featuring the music of Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff will take place as scheduled. We look forward to seeing you tonight to celebrate our success and enjoy a wonderful performance.

The season will start with a bang, featuring Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 1 and the Piano Concerto No. 2 with 2022 Olga Kern International Piano Competition winner, Jonathan Mamora, and celebrating 150 years of the composer’s birth. Throughout the season, Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, and Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring are some of the masterpieces we will present. Back by popular demand are Ukrainian pianists Tetiana Shafran and Anna Dmytrenko as well as violinist Yoonshin Song. NMPhil Concertmaster Cármelo de los Santos will perform Saint-Saëns’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in an evening filled with several capriccio works by various composers. The season closes with the amazing Italian violinist Anna Tifu, performing the Khachaturian Violin Concerto. All concerts will take place at Popejoy Hall.
