Acclaimed bass trombonist Darrin Milling joins the NMPhil for an afternoon featuring two contemporary works that showcase the remarkable versatility and expressive power of his instrument. The program also includes Schubert’s Sixth Symphony, first publicly performed four weeks after the composer’s untimely death at age 31. In this youthful work, Schubert brings together influences from Haydn, Beethoven, and Rossini while revealing his own distinctive musical voice.
