The New Mexico Philharmonic and the City of Rio Rancho Announce the First Inaugural July 4th Concert at the Sky Room in Rio Rancho, a Newly Finished Outdoor Performing Arts Space

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ALBUQUERQUE, NM, June 2, 2021 — The NMPhil proudly announces the Sky Room Inaugural Concert in Rio Rancho on July 4, 2021, at 8:30 p.m.

The concert in Rio Rancho is the first outdoor Classical Concert that will take place at the newly constructed Sky Room, an outdoor Performing Arts Space, at Campus Park. Mayor Hull of Rio Rancho said: “Campus Park is a wonderful addition to our City and will increase the quality of life for the people living in Rio Rancho. It is a great honor to host the New Mexico Philharmonic and celebrate our nation’s Independence Day and this new facility.”

The concert will be conducted by Music Director Roberto Minczuk and will include works by Mozart, Beethoven, Elgar, Tchaikovsky and John Williams and others. Mr. Minczuk said “I cannot think of a better opportunity to bring the optimism of the normal coming back other than with the NMPhil’s first live concert in 16 months. We are honored to inaugurate such a visionary outdoor performing venue and we look forward to partnering with the City of Rio Rancho in bringing this great orchestra for outdoor and indoor performances at various venues in the city.

The Sky Room is a multipurpose, outdoor gathering space that will act as an activity hub in the City Center area, and a destination and gathering space for people taking part in city special events, concert performances and more.

In 2017, Grammy Award-winning conductor Roberto Minczuk was appointed Music Director of the New Mexico Philharmonic and of the Theatro Municipal Orchestra of Sao Paulo. He is also Music Director Laureate of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (Canada) and Conductor Emeritus of the Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira (Rio de Janeiro). Highlights of Minczuk’s recent seasons include the complete Mahler Symphony Cycle with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra; Bach’s St. John Passion, Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7, Beethoven’s Fidelio, Berlioz’s The Damnation of Faust, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Verdi’s La traviata, Bernstein’s Mass, and Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier with the Theatro Municipal Orchestra of Sao Paulo; debuts with the Cincinnati Opera (Mozart’s Don Giovanni), the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and Daejeon Philharmonic in South Korea; and return engagements with the Orchestra National de Lille and the New York City Ballet. In the 2016/2017 season, he made return visits to the Israel Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Teatro Col n Philharmonic and Orchestra Estable of Buenos Aires.

Admission to the concert is free. Seating will be on the lawn.
