New Mexico Philharmonic Chorus

The New Mexico Philharmonic Chorus is an ensemble of talented community singers who unite under the leadership of choir director Sharee Gariety. The chorus rehearses weekly, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a love of choral singing. For many performances, its members are many parents and their children, enjoying the rare chance to experience rehearsals and performances together as family. 

The chorus performs regularly with the New Mexico Philharmonic in a wide variety of concerts throughout the year. In the 2025/2026 performance season, the New Mexico Philharmonic Chorus joined the orchestra for MessiahHome Alone in Concert, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™ in Concert.

In the 2026-2027 season, the choir will join the New Mexico Philharmonic for Messiah, Home Alone in concert and Carmina Burana. The choir holds yearly auditions to select community singers for the upcoming seasons.

Sharee Gariety

New Mexico Philharmoincs Choral Director

Sharee Gariety, a California native, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brigham Young University and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of New Mexico. Sharee and her husband, Arthur, have made Albuquerque their home for over two decades while raising their seven children.

An experienced choral director, Sharee has led numerous church and community choirs. She currently serves as the director of UNM’s University Chorus, and the UNM Children’s Chorus, offered through the UNM Music Prep School.

In addition to her university roles, she is an active clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor, collaborating with middle and high school choral programs throughout Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. For over 15 years, she has also directed Children’s Music Theatre, a summer camp and elementary school outreach program helping children gain confidence through introductory experiences in musical theatre. With extensive experience teaching music to all ages—from babies to adults—Sharee is passionate about fostering musical growth through group singing across all stages of life.

New Mexico Philharmonic Chorus Auditions

August 2026

The New Mexico Philharmonic Chorus invites community singers to audition for the 2026–2027 season.

Under the direction of choral director Sharee Gariety, the NMPhil Chorus is a vibrant ensemble of dedicated singers who perform regularly with the New Mexico Philharmonic. In the upcoming season, the chorus will join the orchestra for Messiah, Home Alone in Concert, and Carmina Burana.

Auditions will be held in August and are open to singers of all backgrounds with a passion for choral music. Selected members rehearse weekly and have the opportunity to perform in exciting and diverse concert programs alongside the full orchestra.

We welcome both returning and new singers to apply.
