Larry Lubar recently retired after 47 years of practicing dentistry in the Albuquerque area. Before that he was a dentist in the U.S. Army, where he served as the chief of the preventative dental unit. He is a graduate of Marquette Dental School and a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the International College of Dentistry.

Dr. Lubar’s commitment to and love of dentistry has been demonstrated throughout the years by his activity on behalf of patients and organized dentistry. He has served as the president of the N.M. Dental Association, the Albuquerque District Dental Society, and the Howard Riley Raper Study Club as well as other dental organizations. As President of the N.M. Dental Association, he travelled to all of the state districts to evaluate the dental needs of the communities. He represented N.M. as a delegate to the American Dental Association for many years, and served as chairman of the N.M. dental/legal panel for 10 years; the peer review committee for 3 years; the ADA Council on Communication; the Council on Dental Education, and many other professional groups.

In 2009 he was awarded the medal of distinction by the N.M. Dental Association for his service to dentistry and for maintaining the standard by which all future leaders will be judged.

In addition to his dental related activities, he served on the Metropolitan YMCA board for nine years and as its president for three years, president of the Jewish Community Center, president of the Jewish Federation of New Mexico, and the Albuquerque Arts Council.

Dr. Lubar has been married to Marcia for 52 years, and has two children and four grandchildren. Family and dentistry not withstanding, music has been an important part of his life.
